Blog 7 - Day 6

Image
Boozhoo to all present, (Hello in Ojibwemowin), For our final hoorah, our main focus was reflection.      Today's journey began with some deep and quiet reflection at the medicine wheel on the property. We thought over the entirety of our trip through a guided meditation. Then we returned to the main area and began our basket weaving activity with April Stone, a black ash weaver enthusiast and pro, as well as a member of the Ojibwe tribe, Bear clan. While the process was strenuous and an uphill battle, in the end we persevered and everyone will be leaving their journey successfully with a handmade woven basket! Be sure to be on a lookout for them tomorrow :). We also had our last sandwich delight which was bittersweet.      We continued our reflection with graphing our emotional journey throughout the trip. We reflected on the ups and on the downs, seeing how our group at whole was connected. We then got our hands dirty and cleaned the entire hou...

Blog 6 - Day 5

Salutations family friends and countrymen,       We began our day with an early start; breakfast was at 7:30. We then headed to catch the 9 o'clock ferry to Madeline Island! The boat ride was quick and smooth. 20 minutes later we arrived on the coast La Pointe. We explored the (tiny) town for a little and got coffee and souvenirs. We then ventured to the museum and met Mike Wiggins Jr. who taught us about the Ojibwe history on the island. He also kindly shared some of his personal stories about reciprocity. In the museum there were many artifacts including pancake griddles, meat cleavers, guns, trading rocks, as well as lighthouse bulbs.      Following the museum visit, lunch was served on the green grass in front of the museum. Scrumptious sandwiches and hearty snacks were enjoyed. MBS states, "no crumbs were left". After lunch, we packed up and went to the Big Bay lagoon. Rex, Evan, and Henry ran along the beach, while Bodhi, Liam, and Solomon ...

Blog 5 - Day 4 (Half way :)

Greetings fellow family, friends, and acquaintances,       Today marked the halfway point of our bountiful Wisconsin journey. To begin, we ventured off to Liam our instructor's, house where we acquired bug nets essential to our spiritual harvesting journey. As our journey went on we were educated on the history of leeks. We discovered multiple groves of the green, leafy friends, ramps, leeks (major shout to Solomon's grove of leeks, he was very proud). We harvested a plentiful cornucopia of leek leafs and bulbs, which we used in our dinner which we will get to later ;).      We returned to our red abode, and headed up the hill to reflect in the meadow. We discussed what we have enjoyed on this trip, and what we would like to see less of. It was very productive! We then packed our bags and headed to the hike at Myrtle beach. The hike was the longest yet, but oh so worth it! Despite the increase in difficulty we persevered for over an hour and made...

Blog 4 - Day 3

Hello parentals and family,       Today we started our day with some yummy bagels and oatmeal, just like the other days :). Some brave souls decided to venture out to the rec center and begin their day with a rejuvenating workout while others plunged in the icy lake. We completed our morning check in with excitement and enthusiasm. We specifically shared what thing we would like to have unlimited access to, by shooting out of our finger. It was very insightful to hear everyone's ideas. Amanda wanted money and gold, Bella desired matcha, MBS wanted electricity to be more eco friendly, Alex wanted froyo, sadly Solomon wanted petroleum which is not eco friendly, and we frowned upon it.      Then we discussed some common American values, including equality, competition, materialism, individualism. We compared and contrasted these to the native values. Then we loaded the vans and headed off to the casino! We met Laughing Fox and he shared cultural sto...

Blog Post 3-Day 2

Image
Greetings fine people,      Today we woke from our deep slumber for the first time in Wisconsin! We had eggs and bagels for breakfast. We traversed a difficult trail that led us to a lookout over the lake. It was a tad bit windy, but we had a blast. We ate our scrumptious homemade sandwiches at the lookout. We drove to the visitor center and worked with our groups to get information for our essential questions. We spent a couple hours exploring the center and going to the gift shop. After that we went to Ashland which is considered their downtown but it didn't have much to be honest compared to the great and glamorous Silicon Valley. We returned to our humble abode (red barn) and had free time. The boys played football outside and Henry was dominating. The girls rested upstairs and made bracelets and read books.  Sleep tight all, Sophie and Bodhi

Second Post-Day 1

Today, we travelled from California to Wisconsin. The entire trip took around 12 hours to complete before we were welcomed to our beautiful home at the Potter's Farm. We had some scrumptious mushroom stew, with some protein packed meatballs to provide us with complex carbohydrates to serve as a short term energy source in addition to the protein repairing our muscle fibers from the long day of travel. While the other individuals were goofing around playing games such as "Chameleon," three special individuals took up the challenge of defeating the mountain of dishes, those brave individuals being Bodhi, Evan, and Rex. After we finished eating and cleaning, we gathered in a circle to have a communal debrief to forge a deeper connection between our newly found peers here at Potter's Farm. Each and every one of us are extremely excited for whatever beautiful mysteries the future beholds for us here at Lake Superior. (More pictures to come in future posts) Yours truly, Bo...
